Malik Walker is a Los Angeles born and raised DJ who began his career in 2016 during junior year of college at Woodbury University.
-
Malik learned to play the piano at the age of eight and eventually branched off to percussion instruments like the xylophone and drums while attending Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks, a performing arts magnet school.
-
The Eagle Rock native grew up inspired by ‘90’s and ‘00’s hip-hop and sports. Living in Northeast Los Angeles surrounded him with the booming duo of Kobe and Shaq who revitalized the Lakers after a subpar ‘90’s run and gave life to him and the city of Los Angeles. Music and sports were peaking simultaneously at an early age, becoming synonymous for Walker.

Malik’s mind was first piqued while in the car listening to the DJ’s of Power 106. He was curious as to how two songs could be mixed together. This led to him downloading the Virtual DJ software on his beat up Dell laptop in highschool. He played around with the program and in his first year of college he discovered the music collective “Soulection” and began to delve deep into the archives of each artist. The one artist that stood out from the bunch was Sángo who used an Akai Pro APC 40 to DJ his shows. That influenced him to buy the same set up and he began to do shows on his campus like the annual music festival “Woodstock”.

Since graduating college Malik has expanded his skills by formally hosting his past weekly radio show titled "Rehema Radio" where he curated mixes that featured a wide range of genres. He also held a residency at a lounge formerly known as Electric Pussycat in Glendale, CA; played sets at Blind Barber in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles and continues to work across different venues and various private event locations.
